INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE
The Faculty of Kinesiology is an academic, educational, and research institution of higher education in the Republic of Croatia and one of the younger faculties of the University of Zagreb. The subject-matter core content of the integrated (undergraduate and graduate) university Master's and the postgraduate Doctoral studies is kinesiology.
From the very beginning the mission of the Faculty has been the symbiosis of educational (professional training) and elite research work.

PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
The programme is structured and organised into two levels of study: the first level is the comprehensive university undergraduate study, lasting 6 semesters. During the first five semesters all students attend the same programme, consisting of the subjects of fundamental kinesiology disciplines and of adjacent and interdisciplinary fields and areas, especially biomedical. In the sixth semester the teaching is divided in two directions:
1) students choose subjects that qualify them for the direct continuation of their graduate study (baccalaureus or Bachelor of Kinesiology)
2) students choose one of the elective modules to attain the actual vocational direction (the leaving certificate level with certificate academic title Bachelor of Sport, B. of Physical Recreation, B. of Fitness Training, or B. of Physical Conditioning of Athletes).
The second level is the university graduate study lasting 4 semesters after which graduates attain the academic title of Master of Kinesiology in Education (compulsory first major), with the qualification to teach physical education at all levels of the Croatian educational system, and the additional competence and academic title Master of Kinesiology in Sport, or M. of Kinesiology in Kinesiological Recreation, or M. of Kinesiology in Kinesitherapy, or M. of Kinesiology in Sport Management (elective second major).

CAREER PROSPECTS
Masters of kinesiology actualize their knowledge and skills by performing all forms of teaching physical education classes in the educational system of the Republic of Croatia, from the preschool level to the postsecondary education level. They are also qualified to organize and conduct all forms of extracurricular intramural activities, as well as for a variety sporting and sports recreational programmes for their pupils and students in educational institutions, in their city, municipality, county, and at the state level. Within the area of competitive sports they manage sports activities for selected groups of children, teenagers and adult athletes focused on sports achievements and high performance. They also organize physical recreation for youngsters and adults and implement kinesitherapeutic procedures as well as sports programmes for the persons with disabilities. They are qualified to establish scientifically the process of exercising and to assess the expected kinesiological effects produced in physical education teaching, as well as the training effects reflected in improvements of sport performance and achievements. They are also qualified to discuss the health-related issues with regard to the underpinning well-being benefits in the participants of kinesiological (sporting) activities.

RESEARCH ORIENTATION
The Faculty is an important scientific research centre in the Republic of Croatia where fundamental and applied research is carried out in the fields of general and applied kinesiology and in the cognate or adjacent, mainly anthropological, scientific disciplines. Nowadays, the body of Croatian kinesiological knowledge is based upon a respectable number of more than 4,100 reference items, comprising scientific and professional journal papers, conference contributions, books and parts in books, research project reports, master and doctoral theses. These scientific products are the results of the experimentally oriented investigations accomplished within the regular research activities of the Faculty, scientific projects, or expertise studies.

INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE
The Faculty of Political Science was founded in 1962 and is the oldest political science educational and research institution in this part of Europe and offers the only study of political science in Croatia. It offers two undergraduate programmes – political science and journalism – and the same programmes are available at the graduate level. The Faculty also conducts doctoral programmes in political science and international relations.
The Faculty regularly organizes specialized seminars, conferences and public forums in journalism, local administration, elections, and political parties. International cooperation is highly developed at all levels: through personal contacts and cooperation (within the International Political Science Association, the Croatian Political Science Association and within the regional cooperation of Central European political science associations) as well as at the institutional level within CEEPUS, Fulbright, Irex, Humboldt and others. The Faculty of Political Science is a member of the European Consortium for Political Research.

PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
The political science department offers a very broad programme, which includes basic courses in political theory and history, political sociology, psychology, philosophy, economy, etc. At the graduate level, students choose to specialize in one of six broad areas: international relations, the Croatian political system, comparative politics, European studies (Croatia and Europe), political theory and analysis, and public policy, public management, and development.
The journalism department offers a comprehensive study programme consisting of journalism history, theory and practice, which is very strongly supported by the Faculty: there is a student magazine (Puls, a free monthly publication issued since 1994, covering student life, needs and the  scene), a radio (Radio Student, the only electronic student medium in Croatia that began broadcasting in 1996), and a television studio (one of the best equipped TV teaching studios in Europe existing since May 2002). At the graduate level, students choose to specialize in one of three broad areas: media and journalism, public relations, and political communication.

CAREER PROSPECTS
The range of employment available for political scientists and journalists is vast, even though they are generally employed in public administration (state, regional and local levels, public companies, etc.), political institutions and political parties, the media, public relations offices in the public and private sector, non-governmental organizations, social research and analytical institutions, etc.

RESEARCH ORIENTATION
Research programmes conducted at the Faculty vary from Croatian politics in a comparative perspective, over a multidisciplinary approach to European studies and Croatian political development, to the issues of media and their construction of social reality regarding identities and integrations. 16 science projects within these broad programmes are currently being carried out at the Faculty.
